Juan Luis Sánchez

Juan Luis Sánchez is the co-founder and deputy director of eldiario.es. With a background as a digital reporter, Sánchez specialised in new media and innovation for independent journalism, such as the eldairio.es membership model.

After developing multimedia coverage in both Spain and abroad, Juan Luis Sánchez took part in the launch of a number of digital projects combining digital innovation and social engagement, such as Periodismo Humano, the Spanish Platform for Freedom of Expression or the whistleblowing safe tool filtrala.org. As co-founder of eldiario.es, Sánchez led the design and strategy of the pioneer membership model launched in 2012 that has inspired other media around Europe. eldiario.es’ business model got nominated for the European Press Prize Innovation Award in 2017.
