Mark Townsend is a senior reporter for the Guardian, covering global development and human rights. He has worked for the Guardian and The Observer, its former sister newspaper, for 24 years, covering many of the world’s major stories and conflict zones, most recently Sudan. He has won a number of awards including news reporter of the year at the Society of Editors press awards.
