Year Report 2026

Another season has drawn to a close at The European Press Prize and we are taking stock of our biggest achievements, changes, and lessons learned from the year.

This past season has been one of contemplation and growth as a rapidly changing journalism landscape, the rise in the use of artificial intelligence, faltering trust in news media, and turbulent global affairs saw the Prize Bureau make fresh efforts to chart a sustainable course forward. 

“These are developments we as an organisation need to follow closely and bring into our internal conversations; letting them inform our choices as we think about the future”, said Jennifer Anathasiou-Prins, Executive Director of the European Press Prize. 

Joining the ranks of the European Press Prize represents much more than winning or being nominated for an Award. Being part of the Prize Community means joining an ever-growing network of like-minded individuals at the forefront of quality journalism in Europe. The round-the-year activities of the Prize illustrate this reality and show what it means to be part of the Community at such a pivotal moment. Every year we highlight these activities in our Year Report, which you can find below. 

The 2026 Year Report showcases the core moments of our latest season including the European Press Prize 2026 in Lisbon, our now traditional event at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, and our annual judging process. As well as this, the report takes a deep dive into key statistics from the past year, updates on our financial status, and our proposed strategic framework for the years 2026-2030. Of course, the Year Report also reminds us of this year’s Winners, Runners-Up, and Nominees and much more as we gear up for another season of growing our Community and unveiling the highest quality journalism in Europe.
