Jury Report 2025 – The European Press Prize
Each year, the European Press Prize Bureau, Preparatory Committee (PrepCom), and Panel of Judges work hard to narrow down hundreds of high-quality submissions to our final list of Winners and Runners-Up.
The process starts each year as we open the window for applications and continues through a series of Longlist Meetings, Category Meetings, Shortlist Meetings, and a final Judges’ Meeting. It is a process that requires time, effort, and significant expertise as the teams work to recognise the highest level of excellence in European journalism. As explained by Chair of the Panel of Judges, Alan Rusbridger, it can be a challenging task:
“Sitting on the European Press Prize jury is thus a life-affirming experience – but also a difficult one. How can one possibly judge between the courage of journalist X and the wisdom of journalist Y? Between the stamina of journalist B and the drama of journalist C?”
Every year, we produce a Jury Report helping to explain the processes taking place behind the scenes in a typical Award Season. The Report also includes the Jury’s thoughts about each of the projects shortlisted across our six categories. You can find this year’s Jury Report below or download it here.
