Andrea Backhaus is an independent journalist specialising in war and conflict. She lived in Egypt and Lebanon for several years and has done extensive coverage on the Middle East and North Africa. She has reported from Iraq, Syria, Libya, Gaza, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and other places in the region, mainly for the German media outlet Die Zeit. In her work she focuses on the impact of war and forced displacement on the lives of civilians.
